Pumpkin Oscars - Best Picture

  • Grand Pumpkin Hotel  It’s the year 2050. Giant pumpkins have become so large, that after Halloween, they are now converted into hotels in a grandiose way.
  • The Theory of Everything  Tim, the world record giant pumpkin record holder, documents his theories on the growing methods that leads to successfully breaking the world record. In book form, Tim’s theories take up 2,032 pages. The movie is condensed to just 21 hours.
  • Whiplash – Follow the hilarious antics as Joe and his wife Selma load a giant pumpkin onto their truck, and take it to the local weigh off. There’s head jerking action, as the pumpkin rolls off the truck as they near the top of a hill within site of the weigh off.

Honorable Mention:

  • How to Train Your Pumpkin Vine 2 It’s too bad animated features don’t get their just due for best picture, as this is a dragon of a movie.

Pumpkin Oscars - Best Action Drama

  • Into the Woods  To grow a giant, world record pumpkin, you need a monster of a vine. Joe’s vine is growing wild. It quickly reaches the edge of the field, and charges into the woods. Will Joe be able to redirect his vine back into the field, without breaking it? To find out, you’ve just gotta see this movie.
  • Innocent Vice Everybody has their vices: gambling, drinking, smoking to name a few. Seemingly innocent at first glance, perhaps the worse vice of them all is growing pumpkins. In this thriller, Homer dedicates every waking hour, from May to October, to grow the “Big One”. Nothing else matters.

Honorable Mention:

  • The Imitation Game Genetics, Inc. thinks they have the DNA strains to make pumpkins in designer colors, at the whim of the gardener. Imagine purple, chartreuse, or bright pink pumpkins. Fuschia anyone!? Pumpkins already come in a variety of colors. Is there room for more!?

Pumpkin Oscars - Best Comedy Film

  • What a Girl Wants The answer to the question this movie poses is obvious. She wants big, round pumpkins! (he,he,he)

Best Animated Movie

  • Finding Nemo-todes The search for “Nemo”, as they are fondly called, takes on hilarious twists and turns out in the garden.

Honorable Mention:

  • Big Pumpkin 6 This is the sixth in the series and its even bigger… keep ’em coming!

Best Documentary Feature

  • Feast After an outstanding season, the pumpkin crop is harvested, and it’s a real bonanza. Need we say more!?
  • Salt of the Earth Pumpkin growers discover that Epsom Salt is a great plant supplement. It’s organic, too!
  • The Reaper The first killing frost is on the way. The harvest needs to be reaped in record time. This feature traces the harvest, step by step.

Best Science Fiction

  • Guardians of the Pumpkin Patch As Fall nears, growers all over the galaxy guard their pumpkin patches from interstellar marauders, intent on stealing the pumpkin crop. Will there be pumpkins on the porch at Halloween? Will there be pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving? Not if the crafty, evil villains have their way.
  • The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Pumpkin Growers It’s an epic struggle for the ages. Five top growers, attempt to outdo each other for bragging rights at the fall weigh offs.

Best Actor in a Leading Role

  • Robert Duvall, The Judge  No one thought a festival judge could be bought. Was he, or wasn’t he? When the “Ugly Duckling” pumpkin won the “Most Beautiful Pumpkin” category at the festival, one had to wonder…..

Best Actress in a leading Role

  • Rosamund Pike, “Gone Girl”  Until she started growing pumpkins, everyone thought she was very normal. Once the seeds sprouted, things got very strange. She began to ignore her husband, spending hour upon hour in the pumpkin patch. Then, one day, she simply vanishes without a trace..

Best Horror Flick

  • Dawn of the Planet of the Pumpkins First, everyone thought Apes would some day rise up to rule the planet. Then, mankind feared that robots would ultimately take over. Not once, did human’s fear that pumpkins might one day supplant man. Then, one day……….
  • American Sniper Jasper thought he would have the biggest pumpkin at the weigh off. But, he wasn’t sure. He decided it was time to have a little insurance policy that his would be the best. So, this well decorated vet got out his sniper rifle and went to work. It isn’t the growers he was after.. he has the pumpkins in the crosshairs..

  • Nightcrawler Do nightcrawlers enrich the soil in the pumpkin patch, or do they feed on pumpkins? Hold onto you lid on this one……

Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Vivien Leigh, Gone with the Frost This is an unforgettable film of love found, love lost, and tragedy in the pumpkin patch. Scarlet O’Hara (Vivian Leigh) grows pumpkins in  Tara, her beloved plantation. Along the way, Rhett Butler arrives to advise her on how to grow them bigger and better. Love ensues, and all is well. Then, tragedy occurs when an unprecedented killing frost threatens to destroy Tara along with the pumpkins!
