Soil pH Tester. Ideal pumpkin soil pH level

Providing Ideal Pumpkin Soil pH Level for Your Plants

More than anything, a successful pumpkin growing season begins in the soil. Every plant has an ideal soil pH range for optimum growth and plant health. Outside of this range, plant health and growth is affected. When soil is too far outside the range, plants will not grow. Last year, if your garden was less productive than expected, then the pH level was likely out of balance.

The ideal pumpkin soil pH level ranges from 5.5 to 7.5. The perfect pH is right in the middle of the range. So, try to get a pH reading of 6.5. If the reading is outside of this range, then you need to make adjustments to the soil. Ideally, make adjustments in the Fall or early spring before the planting season. If the reading is high, then the soil is considered “Alkaline”. Lower it by mixing in manure or compost. If the reading is low, then the soil is called Acidic”. To increase the pH, apply lime.

pH levels can vary across your garden. So, use an electronic soil tester to check a few spots in your pumpkin patch.

Tip: You should check your soil pH level after adding things to improve your soil.
