1/2 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla
one egg
1 cup pumpkin cooked or canned, sieved , or thoroughly mashed
1/2 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Optional Topping: This cake is especially good with a butter or cream cheese topping. Add a few drops of orange food coloring and mix together. Finally, sprinkle a few walnuts on top of the frosting.
