This old fashioned pumpkin cake recipe goes back to at least the early 1950s. It’s still around, simply because it tastes, oh so good. Without a doubt, once you’ve made it for the first time, you’ll add it to your personal cookbook recipe collection.

Pumpkin Trivia: Pumpkins are grown all over the world on six of the seven continents. Antarctica is the sole exception. They are even grown in Alaska.
Pumpkin Cake Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
1 cup pumpkin cooked or canned, sieved , or thoroughly mashed
About 10 minutes before it is done, begin to test for doneness with a toothpick.
Optional Topping: Use a butter or cream cheese topping. Add a few drops of orange food coloring and mix together. Sprinkle a few walnuts on top of the frosting.
