School Science Project

In early to mid- grade school levels, children are exposed to gardening and how plants grow. One of the most memorable projects is watching seeds grow in a clear glass. Bean seeds are often used for two reasons. First, the large seeds are easy for a small child to handle. Second, they sprout and grow quickly.

Pumpkins are another ideal seeds to use. Like bean seeds, they are big and easy for small fingers to handle.  They sprout quickly, too. And, after the project is complete, the children can take the pumpkin seedlings home to grow.

Growing pumpkins is a great way for your child to get into the wonderful hobby of gardening. If your child expresses interest in gardening, give them a small area in your vegetable garden where they can grow anything they want. Or, if they prefer flowers, let them plant and care for a small flowerbed. Then, after they are hooked on gardening, you can give them garden-related gifts. For example, a Chia pet makes a great gift for children.
